Seize the Birthday #278

Hello my crafty friends.  It's time for another Seize the Birthday challenge with JoAnn as our hostess.  As such, she had the honor of choosing the Topping and she chose one near and dear to my heart.  The Color Red.

I wanted to create something a bit out of the ordinary for me and ultimately ended up choosing to highlight the sentiment.  To create it I first die cut the alphas and numeral from red cardstock.  The alphas were heat embossed in white using a wonky background stamp.  The number two was heat embossed four times in clear.  The funky pattern to the image is strictly a result of multiple heat embossed layers and I happen to love it.  The background is a really old designer paper.  I added a thin frame to the outer edge to give a it a bit more punch.

Supplies:
Altenew - Bold Alpha die set
Hero Arts - Ocean Waves background die
Papertrey Ink - dotted designer paper (really old)
Altenew - Fine Frames die set

We encourage you to use our Topping however any birthday card qualifies for the gallery.  I invite you to visit our blog for more wonderfully red inspiration.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Color Hues #81

Wowzers!  Did we ever have a HUGE response to our last challenge!!!  February is definitely the month for Red and Pink and Color Hues totally jumped on that bandwagon.  But we still have lots of February to enjoy yet so let's move on to a new color combination.  Stef has chosen the wonderful duo of Lilac and Mint.

I used a lily die to cut out all of my focal elements in white and then used my Copic markers to color them.  The black dots were created with the use of a black gelly roll pen.  I think this addition really adds so pop to the florals.  I stamped the black background with a lined stamp and then applied some clear embossing powder over top.  The sentiment is one that I created at a friend's house (read that as our fearless leader, Nancy) using her Spellbinders Better Press system. (I keep hoping they'll put it on sale.)  The panel was popped up with craft foam and adhered to a white cardbase for a CAS look.

Supplies:
MFT - Lily die set
Simon Says Stamp - Sketchy Lines Background cling stamp
Spellbinders - Sentiments of Wonder Better Press stamp

I invite you to visit our blog and play along!  For those of you in the colder climates, a little lilac and mint may be just the pick me up you need.  Thanks so much for visiting my blog!!!  I appreciate each and every one of you.

Seize the Birthday #277

The Seize the Birthday challenge blog is back with a new Topping.  Glenda is our hostess with the mostest and she's chosen a very fun prompt.  Can you guess based on my card?

Did you guess Splatter?

While I'm still mourning the closing of Ellen's store I did take HUGE advantage of her final sale.  I used a "new to me" stamp set for today's card.  I have a degree in microbiology and really have a thing for all things fungi and shrooms.

I did some creative masking to stamp out the image onto a piece of designer paper and then colored it with alcohol markers.  The leafy sprig was die cut from designer paper as well.  Before adhering to the card base I splattered the front with white acrylic ink.  I'm really loving the masculine feel to this one.

Supplies:
Ellen Hutson - Nature Walk stamp set
Simon Says Stamp - Leafy Christmas Tree die set
Honeybee Stamps - Modern Spring 6x6 paper pad
Colorado Craft Company - Greener Grass stamp set

I invite you to visit our blog for more inspiration and encourage you to try our Topping.  Thanks so much for visiting!

Rubberstamps.com

Good morning all! I'm very happy to be back with something a little bit different from my usual posts.

Rubberstamps.com has always been known for creating custom rubber stamps but did you know that they now have their line of stamps for cardmakers?  They reached out to me several months ago and I was recently gifted with a sweet little spring/summer stamp set.

I challenged myself to create three cards using their A Little Love Bug mini set.  Up first is a card that uses all but one (lone mushroom) stamp.

Many of their sets come with a free SVG cut file (rather than expensive dies) however I used my Brother Scan and Cut to make short work of cutting the stamped images.  For the above card I used my Copic markers to color in all of the images and a pigment ink to stamp the sentiment.  I used a dashed border die to create movement and a strip of B/W diagonal striped paper as a narrow border.

For my next card I chose to use three butterfly images and a sentiment borrowed from one of the Stamp Village collaborations.  I used a die to pierce the white background and clear droplets to signify movement.  I love how bright and cheery this one turned out.

My third and final card is a bit more somber.  I really love the size of the bee in this set so I added it to some Honeybee Stamp products already in my stash to create this "thinking of you" card.

The yellow honeycomb outline is inlaid into the black panel.  Inserted into the grid are hexagons cut from a glossy embossed specialty paper. The sentiment was heat embossed in white and glitter Stickles added over top of the bee.  I opted for a static bee this time.  *wink*

Supplies:
The Stamp Village - We Stand with You stamp set
MFT Stamps - Stitched Heart Grid die set
Simon Says Stamp - Stitched Slopes and Lines die set
Honeybee Stamps - Hexagon Bunches die set
Honeybee Stamps - Bee-You-Tiful stamp set

Many thanks to Rubberstamps.com.  This stamp set is adorable and I am currently eyeing a cute shark based stamp set (no surprise there, right?) as well as some boho background images.  If you find anything that interests you please feel free to use my 20% off discount by copying and following this link ....

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers #247

Happy February Snarky Friends!  We had such a wonderful response to January's theme to use something new.  Was it the theme or the fact that we are now extending our challenges out for a month?  I'd love to get your feedback on that.

Before I disclose this month's Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers theme I thought I'd give you a peek at my card.

Any guesses?
I'm sure you're asking yourself
 "Hey Jules, where's the snark?"

When you reside in sunny south Florida as I do, the snark is implied.
What winter?  Hahahaha!

And because I'm a bit extra, I made two additional cards
for this month's challenge.

I'd love to know which one is your favorite.

My cards are the same yet different.  After stamping the state and the sentiment I embossed the panel with a flamingo embossing folder.  The backgrounds are a bit different.  One is embossed, one is stamped and one is virgin.

Supplies:
Pink & Main - Love From Florida stamp set
Altenew - Checkered Squares embossing folder
Simon Says Stamp - Crackle Background cling stamp
Flamingo - embossing folder....unknown

I invite you to join us on the blog for some hilarious cold weather cards.  The team has really outdone themselves this time.

Thanks so much for stopping by!  Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Color Hues #80

It is time once again for another color combination for the Color Hues challenge.  February seems like a great month for Pink and Red, don't you think?  Thanks Sheri!

That said, I bucked the trend once again and used some Christmas items that perhaps could lean Valentine's Day.  What do you think?

And before we go any further can we just sit and admire the new challenge logos created by our fearless leader, Nancy?  I adore all of the new graphics!

While I had out the supplies I created a second card.  Yay for Bonus Cards!

I used the same embossing folder for both backgrounds but you can see what a difference the color makes. For my first card I die cut and assembled two candy canes and then arranged them into a heart.  I did stamp the sentiment before embossing.  On my second card I used a trio of red/pink lollipops as the main focus.  I think both cards could be used in for a variety of occasions.

Supplies:
MFT Sweet Stick Holiday die set
MFT Sweetest Holiday Wishes stamp set
MFT - Simply Love You die set
Simon Says Stamp - Kaleidoscope embossing folder

I invite you to visit the Color Hues blog for more inspiration.  Thanks so much for your continued support of my personal and design team blogs.  I appreciate your time so much.

Jules

Edited to add:  My friends at the Just Us Girls challenge are also running a Red and Pink challenge so I'm adding my card there.  If you join us at Color Hues soon, be sure to add your link there too.
