Let's Squash It #8

I've had about three weeks without a major road trip which means more time for crafting.  It's been a bit since I've participated in the Let's Squash It challenge but I remedied that today with not one, but three cards.  The current embossing folder challenge requests that we leave some space and add some bling.

I went with a cream/white/critter theme.  I didn't start out with the intention of creating multiples but I loved the result of this first one so much, I had to create more.

I began with some cream linen cardstock which I ran through my die cutting machine using a large embossing folder.  It's meant for a 5x7 inch card so it left lot of room when cut down.  I matted the panel with the tiniest of kraft cardstock borders.  I die cut the mouse and shamrock from white cardstock and used Copic markers to bring them some life.  I stamped the sentiment in the lower right corner, positioning the mouse above.  I adhered the panel to a white card base that I'd previously textured using a linen cover plat and then added in the tiny sequins to finish it off.

Like I said, I loved the end result so I made two more cards in a similar fashion.  For this next one I used a hedgehog and snail from the same die set but in a horizontal orientation.

I went back to the cute little mouse for the third card but with a different but similar sentiment.

These were so fun to make and would not have happened without the prompt.  This my friends is why I love challenge blogs!

Cottage Cutz - Forest Critters die set
Colorado Craft Company - Thank You Kindly stamp set
Creative Expressions - Forget Me Not Frame embossing folder
PaperTrey Ink - Linen Cover plate

Let's Squash It #5

Today I'm playing along with the gals over at the Let's Squash It challenge blog where they have a love theme going on right now.

My card definitely could be used as a Valentine although it's not restricted as such.  I went with one of my favorite color combos...red/black/white.

I started by running a panel of red cardstock through my die cutting machine using a scripty embossing folder.  I added a narrow mat of black and white striped patterned paper.  I created a wreath using a die and white cardstock.  The sentiment was die cut and stacked three layers high.  I adhered the panel to a black card base and finished it off with five black and white clay hearts.  Now that it's finished I think this would work great as an anniversary card.

Supplies:
Simon Says Stamp - Eucalyptus Wreath die
Simon Says Stamp/CZ Designs - Love You die
MFT Stamps - B/W Diagonal Striped patterned paper pack
Fun Stampers Journey - Inspire embossing folder

Let's Squash It #4

Today's card was created for the current Let's Squash It challenge.  The prompt this time around is to use both an animal and an embossing folder on a card.

After rifling through my embossing folders I decided on a 3D woodgrain which I then paired with a cute little beaver image.

I added white pigment ink to one side of my embossing folder prior to running it through my die cutting machine with kraft cardstock.  This simple technique adds just a bit more texture and dimension to the background.  I colored my critter with alcohol inks and fussy cut him out along the edges.  I used some ink blended scraps to die cut my trees and then cut a few clouds from vellum. I adhered the trees and clouds onto the background with liquid glue (I'm a bit peeved that my adhesive shows through the vellum but oh well. I'll call it rain and move on.)  I put the panel in my MISTI to stamp the sentiment knowing that I'd need multiple tries with the texture.  Finally I popped my critter up with some foam squares and adhered the panel to some rustic cream cardstock.

I left the inside blank for now but I plan to use this as a belated birthday card.  Maybe I'll just forget a birthday on purpose so I can use him.  LOL!!!

Supplies:
Neat and Tangled - Beaver, Eh! stamp set
Sizzix - Lumber 3D embossing folder
Right at Home - Holidays are on the Way stamp set

It's a New Year!  Continue to stay safe and healthy my friends.

Let's Squash It #3

I created this card for the current Let's Squash It! challenge.  Challenge #3 is to use a die cut and an embossing folder.

Looking ahead to the next holiday I created this card with Valentine's Day in mind however it could definitely be used anytime of the year.

I am in LOVE with this background stamp!  I just wanna stamp all the things with it!

To create the card I first die cut the heart and then ran it through an quilted heart embossing folder.   I stamped a white cardstock panel with black pigment ink to create this amazing background.  The 'love you' was die cut twice, once in black cardstock and then again in white.  I stacked them with just a bit of an offset to create a shadow layer.  I heat embossed the sub-sentiment in white onto a strip of black cardstock and finished the card off with a trio of red clay hearts.  There is just something about the combination of red/black/white that is so striking!  It's been one of my favorite combinations for decades.

Supplies:
Sunny Studio - Quilted Hearts embossing folder
CZ Design/Simon Says Stamp - Love You die
MFT - All Lined Up Diagonally background stamp
MFT - Pierced Heart die
Altenew - Delicate Bouquet stamp set (sub-sentiment)
clay hearts

Stay safe and healthy my friends!

Let's Squash It - #1

I am back from a trip to North Carolina where I got both my Fin fix as well as my first taste of true autumn in almost 38 years.  It was wonderful!

I was itching to play in my craft room so unpacking can wait.  There's a new challenge in town co-hosted by Jo, one of my teammies over at The Sisterhood.  The challenge is called Let's Squash It! and each month's challenge will involve the use of an embossing folder.  Fun idea, right?

This first challenge is to combine a geometric embossing folder with metallic cardstock.

I made time today to bust out a card so I could participate in their inaugural challenge, squeaking in just before the deadline.  I do love using metallics but boy are they ever a pain to photograph.

FYI- Several of the products I used are part of my unlabeled stash so I don't have specifics.  Sorry.

I began with the embossing.  I ran a piece of copper metallic cardstock through my die cutting machine using a geometric folder.  I reached for a sheet of cherry wood "paper" and die cut the bricks from the center.  I adhered the two pieces onto a dark brown card base and then cut a narrow piece of the same cardstock to serve as a border, heat embossing the sentiment prior to adhering.  I die cut two leaf sprigs and arranged them into a simple garland and added a small die cut flower (again from the copper cardstock) where the branches meet.

Supplies:
WeRMemory - embossing folder, name unknown
Cherry wood sheet - manufacturer unknown
The Greetery - Brick Layers die set
GinaK - leaf die, name unknown
Hero Arts - sentiment stamp set, no name on package
Ranger - Liquid Platinum embossing powder

If anyone knows the names/brands of my unknowns please feel free to leave me a comment. I'd love to get them labeled.  Thanks!

Stay safe and healthy my friends!
