The Library Challenge #70

 

I haven't had a whole lot of time for extra challenges lately but I'm excited to be back to playing with Marina at her Library Craft Challenge blog.  She has selected a trio of paperback books to serve as our inspiration.

I've never read Girl, Woman, Other however I really liked Eleanor Oliphant and absolutely LOVED Where the Crawdads Sing.  It's currently my all time favorite book and I cannot recommend it enough. It will come as no surprise that I chose it's cover as my card inspiration.

I began my card by stamping out the waves in different colors of Distress Oxide inks.  I moved the stamp a bit each time to get the overlap in waves and colors. I masked off the waves and created a Distress Oxide ink blended background in shades of yellows/oranges/reds.  I stamped the reeds and the sentiment in a crisp black pigment ink.  I thought the serene image and embellishment free background was perfect for a sympathy card.

The Library Challenge #52

There is some cute inspiration over at Marina's alter ego at The Library Challenge Blog.  My dear friend Michele is the guest hostess this time around and she's chosen a really fun and colorful book cover for us to play with.   (And if you look at the direct link I provided you will see that she made a card with my little grandson in mind.  It's soooo awesome!  Love you Michele!)

I have not personally read this book but I'm thinking you can definitely 

judge this book by it's cover and I'm definitely going to seek it out.

My interpretation was pretty straight forward using the reds and purples along with a little monster.  

To create the background I used one of the purple Distress Oxides to stamp onto the large swirly thing-a-ma-bob.  I embossed it with some sparkling clear powder and then did a bit of ink blending with several pink/red shades of original Distress Ink.  I used the same purple ink and sparkling clear embossing powder to stamp out my little monster.  The sentiment was done with white embossing powder.  I added the little white dots around the heart's perimeter and adhered some black and white clay hearts as the final touch.  

I'm sure you all can guess who the recipient of this card will eventually be.  Do you think he'll notice that this monster has no arms???    (Just how did I manage to choose the only armless monster in the set to give him a hug? ROFL!)

Library Craft Challenge #51

I've been absent from Marina's challenge blog for far longer than I'd like.  I want to "make all the things" but alas, sometimes life just plain gets in the way of all the fun.  Yesterday I made it a point to create a card with her current book inspiration in mind.   You can find her challenge blog here at The Library Challenge blog.  Today's book is.....

 

I have no doubt that there aren't hundreds of different cover version but this one is just darling.  I was drawn to the stone wall and the color red in particular.  I searched my newer stamp sets and found the perfect one.  

This Nose to Nose set from Penny Black came with a Christmas sentiment but I think it works beautifully as an all occasion card and in this case, possibly a Valentine.  I started by stamping the focal image onto a piece of Neenah Solar White cardstock, 110 lb.  I then stamped this same image onto a piece of masking paper which I adhered over the top of my focal image.  To create the stone background I inked over a Crafters Workshop stencil with a light beige dye ink.  The bottom area was blended out with a couple of Catherine Pooler dye inks in a green hue.  I then colored the images with Copic alcohol markers and added the panel to a second panel of Solar White die cut with a scalloped edge rectangle made by WPlus9.  The sentiment I chose is from a set made by The Stamp Market.  To finish off my card I added a few die cut hearts that I colored with the same red Copics.  

I think they make a darling version of Romeo and Juliet, do you not agree?
