Seize the Birthday #284

Today's card features Metallics which happens to be our latest Topping for the Seize the Birthday challenge.  I may have been a bit too enthusiatic with my shine, combining silver pigment ink, silver metallic cardstock and silver embossing powder.  For some reason the background appears far busier in the photo than the actual card.  Honest opinions are welcomed.

I had a bit over embossed cardstock leftover so I create a coordinating tag as well.

I began by embossing a piece of black cardstock with the arched background texture.  I accentuated the embossing by swiping the silver ink using the direct "pad to paper" technique.  I die cut the flourish, tag stems and floral centers from silver metallic cardstock and the flowers from white.  The sentiment was heat embossed in silver onto black cardstock, rimming the banner edge with the metallic ink.  All that was left was assembly.

Supplies:
Erin Lee Creative - Art Deco Arches embossing folder
Anna Griffin - Flourish die (included in my mini Empress purchase which I recommend 100%!)
Your Next Stamp - Whatnot Sentiments Four stamp set
Honeybee Stamps - Cool Pearls
Spellbinders - Die Delights Layered Blooms 3
Delicata - silver metallic ink

In addition for the tag:
Spellbinders - Essential Sentiments stamp set
Spellbinders - Envelope of Wonder die set

I invite you to join us on the blog where you'll find loads of metallic inspiration.  We'd love for you to play along.  Metallics are optional however non-birthday cards are not.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Color Hues #87

I have the pleasure of being our hostess this fortnight over at the Color Hues challenge blog and I've chosen the summery duo of Coral and Teal.

As you can see, I've added in white, khaki and a bit of gold as neutrals.

And because I got carried away with the die cutting I have not only a bonus card but also a set of tags to share here on my blog.

Let's start with the cards.  I die cut the flowers from colored cardstocks and assembled them in the bottom left corner of a card panel.  In card one the florals were added after the embossing.  I was curious to see how the florals would look embossed so I added this step to card two after adhering the die cuts.  I think I prefer them without the added texture. The sentiments were heat embossed in gold and adhered to a shadow layer of white.  I added a sprinkling of embellishments to finish them off.

My tags were created with leftover florals and cardstocks.  The scripty sentiments were stamped in black pigment ink.  The banner is an extremely old sticker from American Crafts????  (Don't quote me on that one.)  I really love making tags and sometimes they are just what you need to finish off that special gift.

Supplies:
MFT - Stitched Flower dies
Simon Says Stamp - Crystal Distortion embossing folder
Pinkfresh Studio - Modern Scripted Sentiments and dies
Simply Graphic - English sentiments stamp (tags)

I hope you'll play along with me over at the Color Hues blog.  Take a look-see at my teammies creations and add one of yours to our gallery.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Your time is greatly appreciated.

Seize the Birthday #283

I'll let you in on a little secret.  I live in a beach town but rarely go.  I have a pool.  It rarely gets used.  BUT....I do love to make beach themed cards and as luck would have it, that's our Topping for this fortnight's Seize the Birthday challenge.

I die cut and assembled the swimsuit and floppy hat from colored cardstock.  For the background I die cut the bubbles from the center of a panel of white cardstock, stamped the sentiment and then added texture to the panel using a waves embossing folder.  I adhered the panel to a blue card base in order for the color to show through the bubbles and called this one done.

Supplies:
Simply Graphic - Swimsuit die
Ellen Hutson - Pattern Die combo
MFT - Life's a Beach stamp set
Fun Stampers Journey - Wind and Water embossing folder

We would love for you to visit our blog and play along! Remember Toppings are optional however birthday theme is not.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Your time is greatly appreciated.

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers #250

Happy Saturday Snarky Friends!  A new month is upon us and The Sisterhood is celebrating with a new prompt. My card could fit many catagories but the one we're looking for is Outdoors.

I want to go where she is!

I chose one of my favorite flamingo images which I colored in with Copic markers.  I added a stamp from a very old Kelly Purkey set as I thought this sentiment would make a great encouragement card.  I die cut an arch using a tag die into a piece of bright coral cardstock, embossed it with a folder and then popped it up over the colored image.  I felt like it needed a bit more sumthin' sumthin' so I added the simple florals at opposite edges adding in some matte enamel dots as centers.

Supplies:
WPlus 9 - Summer Time stamp set
Kelly Purkey - Hot Mess stamp set
Spellbinders - Blossom Field embossing folder
Lil Inkers - Anytime Tag die set
MFT - Creature Comforts dies

We would love for you to come join us!  Our challenges are now a month long so there's plenty of time to ponder and play.  I invite you to check out our blog for some more Outdoorsy inspiration!

Thanks for spending a part of your day with me.

Color Hues #86

When it's the first of the month you can bet we have a new color challenge for you over at the Color Hues challenge blog.  This fornight Julie Beech is our hostess and she's chosen the duo of Lilac and Lime.  You all know my distain for purples but with a suggestion from my daughter I actually made a purple card that I love.

Knowing her mama as she does, she suggested making a margarita with lilac adornments and that's all I needed to hear.  (For the record, tequila is the one spirit I will not drink however I've found that many bars/restaurants are happy to substitute vodka in their specialty beverages.  You're Welcome.)

I began with the cocktail and garnishes, cutting them from white cardstock and coloring them with Distress Oxides.  And what's a cocktail without a similarly colored braceleted wrist?  For the background I masked off an oval and ink blended the perimeter.  I stamped the sentiment in crisp black pigment ink and then ran the panel through my die cutter to create the embossed lines.  I adhered the images and added a few clear droplets to finish it off.

Supplies:
MFT - How to Say Cheers stamp set
MFT - Longstem Barware die set
MFT - In Good Hands die set
MFT - Garnish die set
MFT - Drink Decor die set
Papertrey Ink - cover plate

I invite you to visit our blog for more colorful inspiration.  We would love for you to join us in the gallery!

Thanks so much for visiting!  Your time is much appreciated.
