Seize the Birthday # 286

It's time for another round of Seize the Birthday cards.  Our new prompt, chosen by Cathy, is Add a Star.  I had so many ideas rollling in my head but I decided to revisit an older die set that hasn't seen a lot of love.

I believe I made a wise choice.

This is an older set from Spellbinders.  I die cut the elements from white cardstock and reached for my dye inks for coloring this time around.  I used a very small blending brush to create the different colors of rings on the planet and flume.  (Several companies make this skinny brush blenders now.  I believe mine are from Altenew.)

I used a grey panel as my background and stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in white before adding the white stars.  (I covered the sentiment with a scrap of paper before flicking the watered down white acrylic paint.)  I adhered the die cuts and added a few clear droplets.  I think this will be a fun card for young and old alike.

Supplies:
Spellbinders - Spaced Out die set
Lawn Fawn - Beam Me Up stamp set
clear droplets

I invite you to visit our blog where we have Julia and Chris featured as our Surprise Party Guests.  We'd love for you to play along.  Just remember, stars are optional.  Birthday cards are not.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Summer Social Hop with Rubberstamps.com

Today I'm sharing two cards as part of Summer Social Hop hosted by Rubberstamps.com --  Psst!  There are prizes to be won on Instagram if you want to follow along with me there.

An alternative title for this post could be One Stamp Set, Two Cards.

For my first one I went laid back and chill.

My second design is bold and colorful.

Card one uses the Distress Oxide blending technique to create the beachy background.  I allowed the panel to dry overnight before stamping the design elements in black pigment ink followed by a layer of clear embossing powder.  I finished it off with a line of clear Stickles to imitate the surf.

Card two was created with the same stamp set however this time I stamped the images onto white cardstock and colored them in with alcohol markers.  The texture on the yellow circle was created using the Lumen folder from Simon Says Stamp.  I matted it in pink and adhered it to a bright blue panel of cardstock where the sentiment was stamped and heat embossed in white.

If you join me on Instagram @juliepeddicord you'll find both my cards and links to my fellow designers.  Leave a comment on each post to be entered into a giveaway sponsored by Rubberstamps.com

If you're interested in the Squeeze the Day stamp set I used on my cards you can find it here.  And right now it's 50% off!

Thanks so much for visiting!  I hope to see you on IG.

Color Hues #89

Hello Crafty Friends!! My card today was created as part of the new Color Hues challenge for the latter part of June.  Our color duo for this fortnight is Sage and Pink.

While visiting a friend I helped myself to some of her awesome dies and prepared lots of fun white die cuts to bring home.  This trumpet flower is one of them.  I used a combination of Distress Oxides (Bundled Sage, Picked Raspberry, Kitch Flamingo and Hickory Smoke) to color the individual pieces.  I assembled the florals onto a panel of soft stone cardstock and then added a splatter of water to create interest.  The little circles were remnants of the die cutting process.  I colored those as well as used them as embellishments.  The sentiment strip was ink blended in Kitch Flamingo, stamped with Versamark and heat embossed in white.  I'm pretty pleased with how this turned out.  A big thank you to my bestie...you know who you are.

Supplies:
Spellbinders - Fresh Picked Trumpet Flower die set
Spellbinders - Essential Sentiments stamp set
Distress Oxide inks

Thanks so much for visiting my little corner of the blogosphere!  I invite you to join us at Color Hues.  We do love a full gallery!

Seize the Birthday #285

Hello Crafty Friends!  It's time for another Seize the Birthday challenge and our host Barb has a unique Topping for us to try.  The technique is called Double Stenciling.  She's provided a how to link on our blog but in a nutshell, here's how it works.

Ink blend through Stencil #1.
Do Not Remove.
Place Stencil #2 over top of Stencil #1.
Ink blend again.

My Example.

You may be wondering how I achieved three colors.  The plaid background is actually a three part stencil.  I applied the blue, then the green, then the yellow however I kept the third stencil in place (the yellow) and layered the cross hatch stencil over top, applying another layer of blue over top of the yellow squares.  The focal image is a die cut.  I ink blended the center in green, stamped the sentiment and then adhered the ornate frame in the center of the panel which was popped up onto the card base.

Supplies:
The Greetery - Square Dance stencil set
Echo Park - Beach Towel stencil
Anna Griffin - elegant frame (included with my new mini Empress)
MFT - Mini Messages and More stamp set

We would love for you to join us in this technique but if it's not your thing, feel free to add any new birthday card to our gallery.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Color Hues #88

I am actually really excited to share today's card with you.  It's very simple however I am totally smitten....well, as smitten as one can be with a sympathy card.

My card was created with the new Color Hues challenge in mind.  Our two hues for the next fortnight, chosen by our hostess Karen, are Blue and Yellow. (This is my second post of the day so if you missed my earlier one you can find it here.)

I began with a panel of navy cardstock.  I used white pigment ink and a text background stamp to lightly stamp the right side of the panel.  I edged the panel with a dark navy dye ink for some added interest.  The sentiment strip was heat embossed in white.  The florals were all die cut from white cardstock and colored with yellow dye ink.  A black pearl was added to the center.  The panel was cut down to expose the white border of the card panel.  I love the final effect and hope to create more like this in the near future.

Supplies:
Honeybee Stamps - Lovely Layers Dogwood die set
Honeybee Stamps - black pearl stickers
Gina K Designs - Assorted Sentiments stamp set
Hero Arts - Novel Prose Bold Prints background stamp

I invite you to visit our blog where you'll find more wonderful cards using the hues of blue and yellow.  We'd love for you to join us in the gallery.

Thanks so much for visiting!  Your time is much appreciated.

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers #251

Salutations to all on this first Saturday of June!  Not only is today June 1st but it's also the day we release a new prompt for you over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers.  This one is easy peasy so I hope you'll consider joining us.

A die cut and some snark.  That's all we need.
(Actually the snark is optional but always appreciated.

This is a super simple card to recreate.  I did some partial embossing along the lower third of the red card panel, reserving room for my heat embossed white sentiment.  I die cut and assembled Santa, adding in white gems for eyes.  I popped the panel onto a heavy weight white card panel and called this one DONE.

Supplies:
MFT Stamps - Sassy Pants Holiday Too stamp set
Paper Players - Christmas Gnome Layered die set
Fun Stampers Journey - Diamond Netting embossing folder
Honeybee Stamps - white gem stickers

We would love for you to play along with us in our gallery!  As the winner of our May challenge we have Gail, aka Ionabunny, joining us this month.

Thanks so much for visiting.  Your time is much appreciated!
