Since I'm apparently a glutton for crafting "anxiety" *wink* I'm once again playing with the folks at the Color Hues challenge blog. The color duo this time around is Blue and Yellow.
I went with a design that's heavy on die cuts as I really just love the look.
Look at me getting all fancy with my photograph. ha!
I began by die cutting the pitcher and florals from one shade each of blue and yellow cardstock along with a set cut from white cardstock. I decided the pitcher needed a bit of oomph so I did some stamping and white heat embossing onto the image. I layered the florals onto the white cardstock leaving some of it exposed. I added a bit of detail to the petals with a gold gel pen and then positioned the arrangement inside the pitcher. I added some Distress Oxide ink blending to the background panel and followed that up with some splatters in black and gold. The background striped piece is actually from a very ancient Heidi Swapp pocket page kit. I cut it down and it worked perfectly. I finished it off with a white heat embossed sentiment layered on a gold cardstock banner. (I'm sure hoping that gold is considered a neutral but then again, in this case it could be considered a shade of yellow, right?)
I think I'm finally getting the hang of two color combinations. I'm not saying my cards are any better but my frustration level has decreased tremendously. Oh to have such problems, right?

I love the look of the stripes showing behind your central panel Julie and that lovely jug of die cut flowers. Never mind about two colours it's those monochrome ones that are the challenge for me!
ReplyDeleteI think it does get easier to stick to just two colours the more you try, so I guess you'll just have to keep playing with us! ;) Love the echo of the pitcher's stripes in the patterned paper layer. Pretty, pretty, pretty! Thanks for joining us at Color Hues!
ReplyDeleteThat pitcher of flowers is just lovely! And the touches of gold add some real elegance to it! Thanks for joining us at Color Hues!
ReplyDeleteJulie, I have that pitcher on my counter - well, sans the stripes - in that very blue! Come fill it with flowers for me?
ReplyDeleteReally lovely!

Like Lindsey said since you are doing so well learning how to focus with just two colors I guess you will just have to keep playing along with us. I too love the look of mostly die-cuts. This card came together perfectly! I love the striped piece you found in your stash to complete your design! Have a great day and thanks for playing at Color Hues!
