Seize the Birthday #184

An unusual evening post but I'm trying to get my Seize the Birthday card in before the challenge closes.  We're gonna do this quick and dirty style.

The Challenge

The Card

This card was made super easy with the help of a beautiful sheet of patterned paper.  I started by stamping the Happy onto the front.  I die cut out the Birthday sentiment and added some white embossing to the bottom third of the letters.  (In hindsight I probably should have embossed in black rather that white.  Next time.)  I then positioned the word onto my card front and using my MISTI I re-stamped the Happy sentiment to create the overlap onto the word birthday  After that it was just a matter of adhering everything down, including the clay hearts.

CAS(e) This Sketch #362

The current sketch over at the CAS(e) This Sketch challenge is an interesting one to me.  I am very intrigued with the longer focal point of the balloons in this sketch. 

I kept my card extremely simple as many of my sympathy cards tend to be.  Without further ado, here's my take on the sketch.

I added some texture to the finished card panel but it's a little easier to see in my closeup photograph.  

I started with the berry sprig which I stamped in a Copic friendly ink before doing some very simple coloring.  I double stamped the stitched line and added the sentiment in between to mimick the sketch.  I finished it off with a smattering of sequins. (Is there a name for sequins that don't have a hole???)

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers #155

I had a very pleasant surprise upon the return of my recent vacation.  I was asked to join the Design Team over at the Sisterhood, which, as you all know, is a favorite stop of mine on the web for online challenges.  My acceptance was a total no brainer.  :-)  I'm so excited to be part of the team!

Today marks my first post as an official member of their blog and the theme could not be more appropriate.   B is for Booze.  Ummm....hellllllllo.

The two categories of stamps that I have in abundance are 1) sharks and 2) alcohol.  One of these days I'm going to combine the two into a single card but for today I wanted to use what I refer to as a virgin stamp i.e., one that has not seen ink.  ;-)  

I stamped the background with a paint swatch stamp to ground my sassy little gal who I colored with Copic markers.  I love this sentiment.  Nothing says champagne party like being under the age of 30.  (Word has it that I've been 29 for just over three decades now.  ha!)  I added a final bit of detail with the black mat and called it good.  Sweet, Simple, Sassy and for those of us well over the age of 29, just a tad bit Snarky.  

Many thanks to the Sisterhood for thinking of me.  It was such a wonderful surprise!  I do hope you will come and play along with us.  I'd love to see some of you in the gallery!

SOSS #154

I'm playing "life catch up" after a week long trip to North Carolina where this Florida girl actually got to play in snow for the first time in fifteen years.  :-) 

I've got a jam packed week but I had to sneak in to play along with the gals at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers where the current challenge is E is for Evil. 

I dug through my snarky sentiment stash to find one that I thought was particularly evil and then paired it with one of my favorite old bitty images.  

You definitely have to be very good friends with someone to send them this beauty.  Just who should I pick on????  (evil, right?)

CAS Colours and Sketches #360

It's time for a another challenge over at the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge blog.  We have a new hostess for the new month of March.  Jeanne has chosen trio of spring colors to start off the her duties.

As always, you may use whatever brand of inks, cardstock, markers, etc. you have 

in your stash as long as they are similar to the Stampin' Up ones named above.  You are free

to add neutrals but this trio of colors should be the only ones other ones used on your card.

I had a heck of a time trying to match up the Blushing Bride color from my Copic collection.  I started with corals, then pinks and by the end I was adding in some light reds.  It doesn't match 100% but the inspiration is evident.

I began by die cutting the sentiment from the lower portion of a piece of white cardstock.  I offset the stamping of the amaryllis and colored it in with the myriad of Copics I mentioned earlier.  I cut the panel down just a bit and adhered it onto a green card base, leaving just a hint of the green to show on the left side.  (Make sure you save the bits and pieces like the inner portion of the A.)  I finished off my card with a spattering of jewels.

Revisiting My One Layer Card

Remember this one layer card post from awhile back?  If you don't, that's ok.  It wasn't that memorable except for my exasperating rant.  :-) 

The card posted that day was my fourth attempt at one layer.  Today I'm going to share with you my first three (failed) attempts at creating a "simple" one layer card.  (Who coined "Clean and Simple" anyway?)

As you will see, today's card uses an entirely different color scheme than the one linked above.  I actually like today's combination better but after three failed attempts I began to think my choices were jinxed and switched them out on my final attempt.  Ha!  (It couldn't possibly be me!)

Card #1

You're looking at this saying "What's wrong with this card front?"  Well, the sentiment position was aesthetically misplaced, throwing off the balance of the card.  Soooooo I cut the panel down substantially on the bottom edge which in the end makes it a non traditional sized card on a black card base.  (It's no longer 4.25 x 5.5.  A good save in my opinion but obviously it's no longer a one layer card.)   

Card #2

I'm sure you can all figure out what happened to this one.  I mucked up the sentiment which was originally black ink on the white card front.  I did what we all do (right???) and slapped a wide sentiment strip on top and saved the card.  (But not the challenge. That silly sentiment strip bumped it to a two layer card.)

Card #3

Yep.  Another boo-boo.  This time it was a big old black mark on the white card front.  I saved it but cutting down the foliage into a long strip, matting it to black cardstock and then adhering the whole thing down on a new card base.  By now I'm crangy (that self anger that accompanies multiple crafting mistakes) and not willing to make any more boo-boos so I took the safe way out and used another sentiment strip greeting...'cause it was no longer a single layer card anyway!

Now you know why I despise one layer cards.  :-)  And as a reminder of my original post, here was my entry into the challenge.....

You may recall that I mentioned that I flubbed this one too.  I wanted my foliage on the left (see all of the ones above) but after removing the card base from my Misti I saw that I'd stamped it upside down.  *sigh*  There was not going to be a fifth attempt.

CAS Colours and Sketches #359

The calendar says Tuesday which means it's time for another challenge over at the CAS Colours and Sketches blog.  Samantha closes out February with a very interesting sketch.

I welcomed a new to me set of stamps into my craft world recently (sounds much better than I bought another set of stamps, doesn't it?) that I wanted to christen so I adapted one of the images to fit the sketch.  

Unlike my dear friend Catherine, I can't get enough 'shrooms to eat or to stamp so when I saw this one from Your Next Stamp come up on sale, I had to have it.  (Not to mention I'll be flooding my grandson's mailbox with Miss You/Love You cards for his entire childhood.  LOL!)  

I stamped and colored the image and then used a circle die to cut it out.  I matted that onto a larger circle die from which I cut out the tiny circles using a die from the Essentials by Ellen collection at the Ellen Hutson online shop.  The cloud (which represents the triangle in the sketch) is from my favorite set made by the Ink Blot Shop.  The sentiment was heat embossed in white on black cardstock which is also part of the YNS set.  When set on the red card base it just didn't seem finished to me so I added a piece of vellum and some faux stitching using a white gelly roll pen.  

I love this little mouse and 'shroom and am anxious to play with the other images in the set.  I hope you'll find some time to come and play with us at CC&S this week!
