Seize the Birthday #224

It's time for another challenge over at the Seize the Birthday blog where Shirley has chosen Cake as our topping.  Very appropriate, don't you think?

I've had this stamp set forever but it hasn't seen the light of day until now.  Thank goodness for challenges!

I began by stamping, die cutting and Copic coloring my images.  I channeled my inner Kathy Racoosin by adding some texture to her apron with a rag and some colorless blender.  (I really need to remember to do this more often.)  I also added some interest to the reds with a white gel pen.  The background was made using an embossing folder and white pigment ink.  I thought she needed a bit of grounding so I stamped the border which I added to the bottom of the panel.  The sentiment is white heat embossed.  (I actually did this after the embossing and surprisingly had no problem.  Yay for small crafty successes....LOL!)  I adhered the panel to a white card base leaving a nice wide border.

I invite you to come visit the blog for more inspiration from my teammates. We'd love to see your card in our gallery!

Ellen Hutson - Baker Lady stamp set
Ellen Hutson - Handful stamp set (sentiment)
Avery Elle - Indigo stamp set (border)
Art Impressions - Birthday Hat stamp set (cake)
Fun Stampers Journey - Pretty Plaid embossing folder

I'm also entering this into Darnel's NBUS challenge.  My virgin stamp set is virgin no more.  hahahaha!

Continue to stay safe and healthy my friends.   _____________________________________________________________________________

Thank you for visiting my little crevice of the crafty blogosphere.  Your time, comments and friendship are much appreciated.

Happy Crafting!

  1. So fun!!! And such a perfect take on the challenge! Love it!

  2. Such a great card! This is you with the husb's cake? ;) Great colouring and lots of interest with the textures.

  3. So fabulous! I love the fabulous background and border which make the perfect setting for the lady and cake! It's been fun being Surprise Guest:)

  4. Cute image and lovely background with the texture. Love the colors. Great card.

  5. You did a great job on this never used image. I see that you must have taken a class with Kathy Racoosin. I have a piece of her cloth too. Lol

  6. Glad we could help you bring out an old stamp set and show it some love! Your coloring is fabulous too! I have done that technique too, in-fact I was with Kathy live at MFT when I learned about it. Awesome card!

  7. Yay, for nonvirginal stamps, Jules! Let's see, what would the initials be if I had used virgin instead of never before used? CAVE? Crafters Against Virginal Everything? Hmmm, better just stick with NBUS before the blog police shut me down, haha. But, seriously, well done with the creativity as you layered and colored and grounded each of your layers and, especially, adding that perfect sediment in white at the end. Made me gasp! Thank you for sharing with everyone at NBUS and the great tip you passed on to us about the rag - love the effect on that apron! Hugs, Darnell

  8. Love the effect you created on the apron and in adding the white dots and stripes, cool embossing too, great card, Cathy x

  9. Spectacular card, Jules!! If I were grading, your coloring would get a perfect 10/10! If this is what using a stamp for the first time means, then keep bringing on the treats!! :D

  10. Your Copic coloring is fabulous! Love the texture you added to the apron! Great layout with an awesome background!

  11. Yay for using 'new' stamps. Your colouring is amazing! Such a fun card - great choice of background texture.
