Hello Crafty Friends! Today is March 1st and Color Hues is celebrating the month in St. Patty's Day style. Carol is our host and she has most suitably chosen Green and White as our colors this fortnight.
Before we get to my card let me give you a bit of a backstory...
I got my very first pair of Chuck Taylor Converse shoes way back in the 1970s. Seventh grade to be exact as they were all the rage in junior high gym class. Green has always been my favorite color so naturally that's what I chose for my first pair. I was so proud of those babies and sincerely wish I still had them. Fast forward to 1988. Being a huge baseball fan I ran to the theaters when Bull Durham was released. When I saw Susan Sarandon in her high top white Chuck Taylor's I knew I had to own another pair. Unlike my original pair, I bought these in navy high tops. And yes, I still own and occasionally wear that same pair today. (My daughter's first pair were .... you guessed it....purple. EW!)
And now that I've totally bored you all with my trip down memory lane, let's get to my card.
I passed on the MFT Converse die set years ago but when this one from Erin Lee Creative went on clearance late last year I snapped it up ASAP. It's taken me a few months to use it but here she is in all of her glory. I LOVE this card. LOL! I searched deep for a sentiment and using Annie Savoy as my guide, I chose this statement of encouragement.
As you can see, the Chucks were created using only green and white cardstocks. The green background has been embossed with a 3D folder. The sentiment was heat embossed in white. Because this die set is quite large I opted for a 5"x7" card size. It's very difficult to see but I sprinkled tiny gold stars throughout the background as a finishing touch.
Supplies:
Erin Lee Creative - High Top Sneakers die set (NBUS)
Simon Says Stamp - You Can Do Anything stamp set
Spellbinders - Stylized Lattice embossing folder
Honeybee Stamps - gem stickers and tiny gold stars

That card is pure magic ... love it.
ReplyDeleteI love how your card brings so many wonderful memories into the forefront! I have a pair of chucks in the closet. They are blue tye dye and yes they don't match every outfit, but they are as you know oh so fun! Love your card!
ReplyDeleteI love your Converse shoes; I love your backstory! (Oh...and I also love Bull Durham...best baseball movie EVER!). I have the MFT version and your card has certainly inspired me to bring it out for a play!

You did not bore me with your back story. I totally enjoyed it as much as your fabulous card. I have never owned a pair of Chucks, GASP I know. Very creative take on the colors and I think your idea is going to spark many other ideas for our players. Well done!
ReplyDeleteYour memories of your first Converse trainers reminded me of my first pair of trainers, Adidas in my case. I loved them and wore them from 1974 until they fell to bits many years later! Your card has a lovely feminine twist with the flowers and I love the embossed background you've used. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story! I liked hearing how your love of these shoes began. And I came to say, your card is AMAZING!
ReplyDeleteI loved reading the backstory, Jules! And I LOVE your green high tops holding flowers! The stars make the background even more fun and you found a perfect sentiment!
ReplyDeleteI loved your backstory Jules...it made me love this card even more!! My middle daughter HAD to have a pair of Converse high tops in high school (just plain ole white) and she still wears them every once in a while now (she's almost 34). Love your embossed background, the little gold stars, the sentiment and of course the little flowers peeking out of the tops of the shoes! Sweet, sweet card my friend!! Hugs. :0)
ReplyDeleteI love backstories - and I love this card ... and you've chosen the perfect sentiment to go with the high tops! Hugs, Kate!
ReplyDeleteLoved hearing the story about your Chucks love affair, Jules! I have a girlfriend that feels the same and recently she was stoked to find a pair of very lightly used ones for sale. They look so cute, as does your delightful card! Love the little flowers, the embossed background and your sentiment couldn't be more perfect size-wise. Awesome card!
ReplyDeleteYour card of encouragement is just wonderful, Jules! I love the colors, how you used the Chucks as a vase, and the well-chosen e/f background with the sweet schprinkle of stars! And your wonderful trip down memory lane was not boring at all! I still have and wear my ancient RED high tops! Hugs, Darnell ... oh, I just noticed the NBUS badge! Thank you for inspiring everyone to use their NBUS! Come over and link up when you get a minute. Mwah!
ReplyDeleteWonderful card! I love the background EF! Nice way to encourage a young athlete!

How much fun to have found the perfect die cut to memorialize your love of high top sneakers! Fabulous card!
ReplyDeleteI loved your trip down memory lane. What a great story. I was in the same time era. Unfortunately for me I've had foot problems my whole life and have never been able to wear a pair. I have so wanted to wear a pair.
ReplyDeleteYour card is cute and the color green is my favorite color as well.
