CAS Colours and Sketches #435

Because August has five Tuesday we have a special treat for you over at the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge blog.  It's what we call a Double Challenge.

In a double challenge you must use only the color trio
(plus neutrals) as well as incorporate the sketch into your design.

I didn't want to go with a traditional trio of shapes so I used a bit of artistic license with the sketch.

My trio consists of two palms trees and a cute little penguin.  It works, don't you think?

I began by stamping my trees in yellow.  I stamped, fussy cut and Copic colored in the cute little seaside penguin using the challenge colors along with blacks and greys.  The sentiment was stamped with a crisp black pigment ink.  To create a matching border I rimmed the white panel with the same Copic marker I used on the penguin.  I positioned my penguin in front of the trees, popping him up with some foam tape.  I also used foam tape to adhere the panel to a white card base and added in some clear yellow droplets as accents.

I invite you to visit our blog and hope to see your card in our gallery!

CAS Colours and Sketches #434

Bhavya has created a really fun sketch for this week's challenge over at the CAS Colours and Sketches blog.

As with all of our sketches, feel free to
rotate and/or flip to fit your design.

I found the perfect stamp in my Christmas stash, so holiday card it is

I began with the HO HO HO stamp.  Yes, that's all one stamp.  Convenient, isn't it?  I then die cut and assembled my Santa hat using red cardstock for the base, white cardstock for the rim/pom and a generous slathering of clear glitter glue for sparkle.  I cut the card base down so as to provide a nice pool border against my card base and did the little trick from last week where I rimmed the white panel in clear glitter glue.

I invite you to visit our blog and hope to see your card in our gallery!

Supplies:
Simon Says Stamp - HoHoHo stamp set
Cottage Cutz - Santa Hat die
Nuvo - White Blizzard Drops

Luau Birthday

We are celebrating a friend's birthday this weekend with a surprise luau.  It's her 50th which calls for a special card and it just so happens *wink* that I had the perfect MFT stamp set for the occasion.

The inside says:  "Do Epic Shit"

I started with a stenciled ink blended background to which I added Copic colored stamped and die cut elements.  I heat embossed the black sentiment with clear embossing ink, cut down the panel, matted it to a piece of citron cardstock and then adhered it to my card.  I finished it off with my favorite clear droplets.  Excuse me now while I go enjoy some tropical rum punch.

Supplies:
MFT - Tiki Party stamp set
Avery Elle - Banner Bits stamp set
Taylored Expressions - Frayed Edge masking stencil

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers #192

I would venture a guess and say that most of our followers are women and as such we
can all relate to the newest prompt over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers.

H is for Hormonal

I do believe Edna has a zit.

Rather than isolating just one symptom I decided on a stamp that encompasses them all.

I stamped, Copic colored and fussy cut out poor Madge who has just had about enough.  I used an embossing folder for the background and realized she needed some sort of grounding.  I stamped out the gingham pattern and positioned it in what I hope looks like a rug.  I did a lot of digging through my snarky stamp sets and found this simple sentiment that I think matches her mood completely.

I invite you to visit our blog for additional inspiration from the Sisterhood.  We would love to see your card in our gallery!

Supplies:
Art Impressions - Madge stamp
Altenew - Window Slats embossing folder
Create a Smile - Shit Happens stamp set
HoneyBee Stamps - Bitty Patterns stamp set
Trinity Stamps - Silver Stones

Seize the Birthday #219 - Fun Announcement!

Today is a special post for me.  My followers know that Seize the Birthday is one of my favorite challenges as one can never have too many birthday cards.  I particularly love that their prompts push me to think outside of the box and try new things.  Well today I'm very happy to announce that I am now part of their fabulous design team!

My first prompt as a designer happens to be something I know a little bit about....By the Sea.  I am not an avid beach goer but living only ten minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, I definitely have lots of beach themed card supplies.

And you'll see from my supply list below that I put a lot of them to use on this card.

Starting with the background, I applied Distress Oxide inks onto a white card panel starting in the right bottom corner for the beach and then extending out light to dark for the ocean.  I immediately applied a layer of sand embossing powder to the beach to create a nice realistic texture.  Using small beads of liquid glue I adhered mica flakes to the shore followed by tiny dots of white gloss drops.   I added water droplets to the ocean and then applied a thin coat of Distress Glaze to bring out the color.  The sentiment was stamped in black pigment ink and heat embossing in clear.  I die cut and assembled the crab which I adhered along the shore.  The front panel of the card was embossed with a 3D embossing folder to give it a bit of texture.  I gave the crab a shell to hold but what you can't see from the photo are the tiny little pearls I added along the shoreline.  Given that I've been very bad about sending out birthday cards lately this card will definitely come in handy.

I invite you to visit the blog and hope to see your creations in our gallery.  Sea themed cards are appreciated however any birthday card qualifies.  Thanks so much to Nancy and her team for having me!

Supplies:
Simon Says Stamp - Picture Book Crab die
Hero Arts - Sand embossing powder
MFT - Just Beclaws stamp set
Altenew - Organic Linen embossing folder
Distress - Mica Flakes
Distress Glaze
Tonic Nuvo Drops - gloss white
Miscellaneous pearls/shell sequin

CAS Colours and Sketches #433

It's time for another color challenge up at the CAS Colours and Sketches blog where our hostess Bhavya has chosen a fun trio of colors.

For our color challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colors. You may also use neutrals
such as white, ivory, black, brown, grey, or metallics; however, no other colors should be added to
your card. We use Stampin' Up color names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other
companies' products as long as you match the challenge colors as closely as possible.

Without further ado...

I began with the background stencil.  Before ink blending I taped off the middle section so I could create a horizontal stripe of yellow within my pool colored background.  I die cut the You from red cardstock, added the white shadow layer beneath and stamped the sub-sentiment in black.  I decide to cut down the panel to expose a white border, wider on the sides than the top.  I adhered the panel to a white card base, rimmed the panel with some clear glitter glue and added my customary trio of clear droplets.

I invite you to visit our blog and hope to see your card in our gallery!

Supplies:
MFT - Watercolor Wash stencil
Ellen Hutson - All About You die
Simon Says Stamp - You Matter stamp set
Ellen Hutson - clear droplets
Nuvo - White Blizzard drops

Perfectly CAS - August Challenge

We have a new prompt up at the Perfectly CAS challenge blog.  This month we'd like you to incorporate stripes and/or dots on your card.

Remember that the guidelines state that you should only use 1/3 of your card in the design.

Being the overachiever that I am *wink* I opted to use both stripes and dots in my design.

I began but first stamping the trio of narrow lines along the bottom third of my card.  I used a stitching die to create the cut out circles that run parallel to the lines.  I die cut the bird in white, colored it in with Copic markers, adhered it to the bottom right of my card leaving just enough space for the tiny sentiment.  I felt like it needed a bit of embellishment so I opted for a few dots of clear glossy accents.  They add just a little without distracting from the focal point.  I would have preferred a smaller focal image but overall I think I kept within the 1/3 guideline for my design.

I invite you to visit our blog and hope you'll join us this month.  We'd love to see your card in our gallery!

Supplies:
MFT - Holly Jolly Cardinal die set
MFT - Itty Bitty Basics stamp set
MFT - Candy Stripes background stamp
Your Next Stamp - Stitching Border die set

Seize the Birthday #220

I'm popping in real quick to share a card I made for the
challenge where the theme is stripes.

Without further ado....

I started by heat embossing vertical stripes in white onto a panel of white cardstock after which I ink blended some Distress Oxides to create the background.  The center portion is a vertical criss-cross die cut rectangle stacked three high set against another panel of blue.  The white/blue sentiment die cut is set horizontally over the top.

Supplies:
MFT - Candy Stripes background stamp
Spellbinders - So Many Sentiments die set
Spellbinders - Kaleidoscope Plaid die set

CAS Colours and Sketches #432

It's time for our first August sketch over at the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge blog.  Loads of possibilities with this one.

As always, feel free to flip and/or rotate the sketch to fit your design.

Here is where the sketch led me.

I initially had lots of ideas but I couldn't get four images to fit onto an A2 sized card.  After multiple attempts it dawned on me to make a mini slim line.  Duh!  This one is very straightforward.  My finished card measures 3.5" x 6.25" which is the size I prefer.  (Love these mini slim line envelopes from Taylored Expressions.)

I began by stamping my four circles in alternating colors and then stamped the swirls over top in black.  I stamped the greeting as per the sketch and added a sliver of b/w diagonal striped patterned paper on each side before popping the card front onto a white card base.

I invite you to visit our blog and hope to see your card in our gallery!

Supplies:
Simon Says Stamp - Favorite Flower stamp set
Simon Says Stamp - Big Words Thanks stamp set
MFT - black and white paper pad

Happy Little Stampers - August Anything Goes With Dies

It's a new month and time for another round of Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Dies challenge.  You know the drill.  If you use a die in any form or fashion it qualifies for our gallery.

I really wanted to use these Band-Aid dies but didn't want to go with the traditional brownish/beige color.  Why not shades of blue?

I die cut the Band-aids from grey cardstock and then searched my stash for an appropriate sized circle.  I die cut the circle from some cheap watercolor paper and used the negative space as a mask to ink blend my three circles.  While I had the ink out I also colored in some white cardstock which I then used to die cut the center squares of the bandages.  I stamped the sentiment in a crisp black pigment ink and then adhered the bandages directly to the circles.  I decided it needed a bit more sumthin' sumthin' so I die cut some simple hearts from white cardstock to use as an embellishment.

I invite you to link your die cut cards to our gallery this month!

Supplies:
MFT - Band-Aid dies
MFT - Circle Stax die
MFT - Get Well Soon stamp set
Martha Stewart - heart punch

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers # 191

We have a fun new challenge up over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers.

F is for F Words.

I know where your mind just went but take a close look at Lee's awesome graphic and you'll see there are lots of fun options for this challenge.

We have provided you with a plethora of F words for your consideration.

I would be remiss if I let F Words go by without a flamingo.

In addition to my flamingo I wanted to incorporate an F Word into my sentiment. I went with the G rated version for something a bit different.

I used lots of patterned papers for my card.  The leaves, flamingo and striped background are all from 6x6 paper pads.  I stamped and heat embossed the sentiment in gold and added some little dots with a sparkly gelly roll pen.  I also edged the striped panel with a gold paint pen to give it a bit of definition.  All in all, a very simple card to make.

Come stop by our blog to see more inspiration from The Sisters and our Reigning Queen Beverly.

Supplies:
My Minds Eye - On Trend paper pack
Paper Issues - Snarky stamp set
Waffle Flower Crafts - Greenery dies
Simon Says Stamp - Flamingo die

Color Hues #23

Today's card was inspired by the current color duo over at the Color Hues challenge blog.  It's all about pinks and yellows this time around.

I had a new set of sentiment strips that I wanted to use
so I basically built my card around this one.

Yes, let's make pour decisions.  :-)

I started with the background die which I cut three times, once each in white, pink and yellow.  I did a die cut inlay to alternate the colors but chose to use white where the sentiment would be.  I stamped and colored the rose' and popped it up onto the panel with several layers of cardstock.  The sentiment is part of a set of preprinted sheets.  I used a die to cut it out and adhered it below the rose'.  I adhered the panel to a white card base and added in lots of pretty pink and yellow pearls.

That's it for me today!  I have book club tonight and will most likely make a few pour decisions.   LOL!

Supplies:
Reverse Confetti - Big Stripes Cover Panel die
Ellen Hutson - Voices in my Head stamp set
Simon Says Stamp/CZ Design - Send Wine reverse sentiment strip set
Trinity Stamps - pearls

Happy Little Stampers - August Christmas Challenge

It's time once again for another round of Christmas cards over at the Happy Little Stampers challenge blog where the theme this month is Wonderland.

As many of you know I live on the southeastern coast of Florida just five minutes from the coastline.  Our Christmas Wonderland is sandy, hot and humid.  I considered doing a beachy themed holiday card but decided this was the perfect opportunity to create a wintery scene.  Here's what transpired.

I began with all of the die cutting.  The car was cut from glossy red cardstock, the trees from a pine green cardstock, the gifts from patterned paper and the bows and sentiment from glossy black cardstock.  I dipped the tree branches in embossing ink and heat set them with a white embossing powder to create the look of snow.  I used a bit of twine to tie the tree to the top of the car, added a bit of vellum for the inside of the car windows and grounded the scene with some white glitter cardstock.  The snowfall is actually white gems adhered to the aqua card panel.

I hope you'll come and join us at the blog!  Any Christmas card qualifies but we love to see folks incorporating our prompts.

Supplies:
Right at Home - Holidays are on the Way die set
MFT - Sloped Hills die
Impression Obsession - Tis (the Season) die
HoneyBee Stamps - white gem stickers
Miscellaneous cardstocks and patterned papers

CAS Colours and Sketches #431

August is upon us and this being the first Tuesday of the month, we have a new color challenge for you over at the CAS Colours and Sketches blog.  Bhavya is our host this month and she's chosen this wonderful trio for us to try.

Here's where my creative process led me.

I'm not sure I'd want to eat an ice cream cone in these colors but hey! it's a card and I can make it any color I choose.  :-)

I began by stamping and Copic coloring my cute little image with the challenge colors.  I die cut and stacked the "sweet" in gray cardstock and positioned it so that the hungry little mouse was sitting on the "t".  I then stamped the sub-sentiment down below, cut off a bit of the left side and added a strip of b/w striped paper before popping it up onto a blue card base.

I invite you to check out our blog and come play along.  I'd love to see your card in our gallery.

Supplies:
Colorado Craft Company - Ice Cream Mini stamp set
Simon Says Stamp - Tiny Words stamp set
PoppyStamps - You Are Sweet die
MFT - black and white striped paper pad
