Inkspirational Challenge #218

Today I'm playing along with the folks at the Inkspirational Challenge blog.  I could be mistaken but I think this may be my first time in joining in.  I will say that their current photo board is a tad bit creepy but I do love the colors. 

I have a polka dot cover die in my stash so that's the direction my card took.  I opted for a cute windmill rather than creepy tentacles however.  

The white panel was cut with a cover die and then embossed with a cover plate to give it some texture.  I did some Copic coloring on the windmill, mushrooms and sentiment.  The front panel was adhered to a red card base which shows through the circles.  I think the end result is cute.

CAS Colours and Sketches #381

Are any of you having as much trouble keeping track of time as I am.  Some days I honestly don't know what day of the week it is.  Thank goodness for the ability to create and schedule blog posts ahead of time. (Sad, but being sincere here.  LOL!)  So while today is not Tuesday as I write this, it is Tuesday when it goes live.  Ha!  As you know that means we have a new challenge up for you at the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge blog.  This week we have a sketch created by Holly.

I recently created my first slimline card in a horizontal configuration so today (read that as last week...ha!) I decided to try my hand at a vertical one.  This is what transpired...

No stamping on this one.  I used card stock and a dotted patterned paper to create the vertical stripes.  The sentiment was die cut and layered to add some dimension and the leaves were added for some interest.  I finished it off with some glossy Nuvo drop.  Very easy to create.

Now that I've made a slimline card in both orientations I can honestly say I'm not sure I love the dimensions.  We'll see if it grows on me.

Inspired By Challenge #134

As promised, I'm back with a second beachy card for another similarly themed online card challenge.  It just so happens that the current Inspired By... theme is Beach Life.

I was drawn to both the beautiful sunset colors on the surfboard as well as that cute VW van on the cute shabby chic side table.  

I created the background with Distress Oxide inks.  I stamped two palm trees and then colored them in with a black sparkle marker.  (The sparkle is lost in the photography.)  I stamped, COPIC colored, and die cut the van before popping it up on the card front with some foam adhesive.  I finished it off with the sentiment and the same birds I used on my last card.  Looking back at the inspiration photo, I think I did pretty well.  :-)  (Don't burst my bubble and disagree.  LOL!)

Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers #165

It's time for another challenge over at the Sisterhood of Snarky Stampers blog and in keeping with the current animal theme, Edna is going a bit more domestic in her choice.   This fortnight's theme is D is for Dogs.

For my card I turned to another one of my go-to secrets.  Cocktails!   

There was a bit more effort put in to this card than looks on the surface.  The dog and cone images are from two different stamp companies so there was some surgery involved.  The cone stamp actually has a different dog stamped within it so I did some masking and fussy cutting to isolate just the cone itself.  I then stamped my chosen dog image twice as I needed to surgically remove his head and elongate the stamp a bit to make it fit with the cone image.  Am I making any sense? (Basically I colored and fussy cut out an entire dog and then colored and fussy cut out an additional head.)  I made an incision in the cone so I could insert poor decapitated doggie's head inside and then adhered the new head/cone over the torso.  I thought he needed a bit something/something so I dug through my stamp stash and found him a cute baseball cap.  Finally, because I'm sure that was traumatic for the poor little guy, I gave him a cushy little doggie bed on which to rest.  

For the background - I used a martini glass stencil for the panel and a brick stencil for the card base.  I intentionally kept the ink blending very light so as not to distract from the focal image.  I stamped the sentiment in a crisp black pigment ink and added a few little card stock circles to create the illusion of bubbles as well as to balance out the card design.

Tic Tac Toe Challenge #074

I'm finding myself rather hooked on the TicTacToe challenge boards lately and the current board is no exception. 

I was once again drawn to the right column, this time featuring Adventure, Beach and Palm Tree.  I happened to have one stamp and die set that covered all the bases.

Because there is so much to this stamp set I decided to expand the real estate by trying my hand at a slimline card.  I began by stamping and die cutting the individual events.  I then stamped the beach sand and created a very soft ink blended sky.  After that it was just a matter of assembling the scene.  I added a bit of soft brown edging to add to the vintage feel as well as few soft birds in the distant sky.  As my final touch I added a retirement sentiment because ...  just how perfect is that?

CAS Colours and Sketches # 380

It's Tuesday once again and I'm delighted to share with you my first DT challenge over at the CAS Colours and Sketches challenge blog.  This week is a color challenge and I've selected the following trio for you to work with this week.  I hope you like them!

For our color challenges, you must use all of the stated challenge colors. You may also use neutral colors;  however, the challenge colors should be the most noticeable ones featured on your card. We use Stampin' Up color names for reference, but you are welcome to use any other companies' products as long as you match the challenge colors as closely as possible.  

I turned to one of my favorite die collections to create my card and I'm pretty happy with the results.

I began by choosing three shades of cardstock that closely matched the chosen trio.  (The mint card stock actually is Stampin' Up's Mint Macaron shade.  The other two are from different companies.)  As per the rules we are allowed to add in neutrals which for this card are black and white.  

I die cut the arch from a panel of smooth white card stock.  I then die cut the Vespa (sounds much cooler than scooter, don't you think?) four times, once each in blue, coral, mint and white.  The wheels were cut from black card stock.  From there it was just a matter of piecing it all back together.  It takes some finessing but I think the results are so worth it in the end.  I also die cut the balloons in each of the challenge colors.  The sentiment was heat embossed in white onto black cardstock.  I arranged and adhered it all onto the panel and then adhered the panel to my mint card base.

Seize The Birthday #195

Today’s card was inspired by the current Seize the Birthday challenge where the extra topping this time around is to use a non-neutral card base.

Colored card bases are a frequent thing with me so this didn’t require any extra effort on my part.  I grabbed a new stamp set from a recent online order and came up with this.

I stamped the balloon bundle in the bottom center portion of the card panel and then created a mask using a full sticky post it note.  Using the mask, I then stamped twice more, once to the right and then again to the left of the original stamped image.  I colored the balloons with COPIC markers and used the yellow shade to color the edges of a scalloped panel cut slightly larger than the stamped panel.  I quadruple die cut the word Happy, stacked the layers and adhered them to the card front.  The sub sentiment was heat embossed in white onto black card stock.  I finished it off by adding a thick layer of Glossy Accents to the word Happy to give the word some shine.
